I don't think I've ever seen anything in Tolkien's writings as to whether male/male or female/female relationships were accepted or occured in Middle-earth. Is there anything to suggest that they were or weren't? If there is evidence that they weren't, doesn't that mean that most slash is unCanon, even if it's not actually bad?

I'm also curious as to whether there's any mention of it among the Elves or Maiar (the Valar almost all married). Since there are about twelve books on the Elves, there's more likely to be something in there. Does anyone know?
