Dreaming of Livejournal

Hello, Protectors of the Plot Continuum! It's a new year, and here we are on a new site.

the_ppc is a community for PPC members to share news (by posting directly here), but mostly to serve as a repository for Dreamwidth journal links. Anyone who's joined the community is probably a PPC member, so why not head over to their journal and say hello? It's a great way to make friends, or to get to know someone who's previously only been a name on the Board.

There's also another PPC DW comm: [community profile] ppchq is where you'll want to go if you're interested in RPing. It's mostly occupied by in-character journals. Try not to get the two confused. ^_^

2014's Official PPC Shipping List

So: many years ago (in, like, 2004), BeautyInDisguise and bjam created a list of PPC 'ships (as in relationships) and OTPs. Since then, we've had a shipping festival of one kind or another pretty much every year.

Last year, for the first time in, ooh, ages, I started a thread specifically to create a list in the style of the BiD/bjam version. I don't think I said it was as a tenth anniversary, but I should have.

This is what the PPC Board of the time came up with, archived here for posterity.

Oh, yes, you want to click )

MY STORIES ON FANFICTION

WHY ARE PEOPLE MAKING PARODIES ON HERE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION..... IM ALL FUN AND GAMES BUT PLEASE REMOVE ALL STORIES WRITTEN BY ME

The Ypur Invasion, September 2008

The PPC belongs to Jay and Acacia, the Agents to their authors, and canonical species, places, and things to their continua's respective authors. This was a collaborative effort on the Board back in '08.

The Ypur Invasion

In August, AD 2008 (HST), a robot unloaded a herd of beasts called Ypurs on us. In September, the locking charm gave and they escaped.
Sadly, many PPC records were damaged in the Frozen Argon Incident. Among these were the records of the Ypur recovery efforts; only the first half remains. We must interview the people involved once more and get their stories again. What follows here is the information that survived.

DIC Mission: Allies (Narnia/LotR, Rated M)

(For some inane reason, I forgot to cross post this yesterday. Ah, well.)

Title: PPC Mission: Allies
Author: [livejournal.com profile] sedri
Rating: M15
Summary: Agent Sedri and her new partner, Agent Ketay, take on a LotR/Narnia crossover in which Susan is forced into marriage with Legolas.

Mission Plug

Hello, my dear fellow lj-ers

I’d like to announce that, after a brief hiatus (er, okay, after about six years), Agent Jeanlily and I (this is Agent Twain) have finally written another PPC, this time of a dear little story called The Fellowship’s Bliss (Bliss being the name of the ‘Sue).

The new story is here: http://www.freewebs.com/bookofnightmares/fellowshipsbliss.htm
And the general website here: http://bookofnightmares.webs.com/

Hey, gang...

... got a puzzle here: poodle or troll?
The offender's FF.n profile
So far I've gotten no response to the review I left on "Legolas meets the Winchesters," but while I haven't looked at her other stories, it seems other readers are coming to the same conclusions. It's stereotypically bad writing--and I'm never sure if that means it's someone *trying* to be that bad or if the writer really is the sort that gave rise to the stereotype in the first place. (There's one writer in the Hogan's Heroes section causing the same sort of debate--invincibly ignorant or persistent troll, but doesn't get the message that we really prefer goodfic, please go away.)

I guess this goes without saying, but on the off chance it is a kid who doesn't know any better and can be taught the ways of goodfic: if you do review, be polite until you're given a reason not to be. It's PPC policy not to flame anyone but plagiarists.

Agent Glass's completed PPC Missions

Following Sedri's example, as I have been meaning to do for the last several months...

Still a short list, sadly. )

Neshomeh Makes a Speech About Bullying, Critiquing, and Concrit: What We Are and What We Are Not.

EDIT: Clearing up some of my language and adding a link to the new section in our FAQ: For Other People in the first two paragraphs in case more non-members happen by in the future. (Hello, non-members! *waves*)

Also, I would like to make it clear that this particular post isn't about the "'Mary-Sue' is a misogynist term" issue. For the record, though: after a period of intense thought, my personal feeling is still that it makes more sense to change a word's meaning with education over time than to try to change how a thing is perceived by changing what it is called. Therefore, I'll keep on saying "Mary-Sue" on the understanding that it applies only to fanfiction characters and that its gender is a byproduct of Internet demographics rather than a deliberate slur on women. For me, "Mary-Sue" goes on the same list as "Don't say 'gay' unless you mean 'homosexual'." I'm not prepared to change my mind at this time, so please respect my right to my own point of view. Thank you. (April 29, 2010)

Posted here because it was too long for the Board. )

An answer to some accusations.

Hello, there, canon-defenders and other curious people!

It's happened again. One Boosette has ranted against the PPC and its canon-defending affiliates. This is a little different than your average Suethor rant, in that 1) it is articulate, and 2) it brings up specific, serious charges of bullying and misogyny, rather than just spewing aimless vitriol. (Not accurate charges, mind you, but serious ones.) And so, with this expanded version of what I posted on the Board, I give you: entertainment! Hopefully.

The original rant

I have exerpted the most pertinent parts of her post in order to respond to them. My comments to her essay are in roman. I hope you'll pardon the long entry; there was a lot to say.

Hope you like!

Edit: I forgot this community doesn't allow non-members to comment. Since I was the one who posted this, you can comment on my LJ here.

Edit the Second: I've added to my discussion of Mary Sues here.

Wanton pluggage

In a fit of madness writing, I've managed over the last month to finish not one, but two misisons that have been sitting there unfinished since late 2005. What can I say, I'm bad at finishing things.

Thus, I am proud to present:

1. Agent Logan and Entropy's first published mission (although not their first actual mission), set mid-2005 HST while both of them were still with DMS. In which Logan and Entropy take down the Love Story of Boromir and Listala, a raging Sue who is both Elrond's niece and sister, and Boromir is both evil and the lust object.

Mission log can be found here.

2. Logan and Entropy take on an epic badfic filled with Stus galore, a dragon, morris-dancing Elves, a Vampire!Maia!Sue, Radagast as a grizzly bear, and his invisible pet lynx Cute Animal Friend.

Due to the length of this one, it's in two parts: Part 1 and Part 2.

Logan and Entropy try out a novel way of takimg down a Maia!Sue in this one, hope you like.

Elcalion, creative.

(no subject)

So, I suggested on the Board that we take a tip from [livejournal.com profile] pottersues and try hosting the Golden Bubotuber Awards. The idea is to nominate as many fics as you can for as many categories as you can, and then when we have enough we all vote on which one should win each award. Comment to this post with the title of the fic in question and a link to it if it's still up.

Keep in mind that some nominations are likely to be NWS if you go link-following.

Categories are as follows, titles and explanations taken from the Pottersues journal ... )

I may merge Most OOC Canon Character: Male/Female into one category for simplicity. Thoughts?

Trek Reboot?

Are there any agents taking on Star Trek 2009 fic?  I've found a very badly Sued Reboot!Chapel and I haven't the time to add her to my list.  Olympic-quality figure skater, survived random deathly illness as a young child, etc etc.

List of IndeMaat's PPC fics

Following Sedri's example, here's a list of all my PPC mission posted so far on my LJ. Fake cut to list

Sedri's PPC Missions (so far)

As promised! I'm also proposing a general format for mission cross-posts - tell me what you think. (It's not important if no one follows it, but I seem to be in an organising mood today. Indulge me.)

Missions - with suggested format )

EDIT - tagging issues! )

So, sorry if I've upset anyone by sweeping in like this, but I think it'll work, if you want it to.

This Community Exists For A Reason

[cross-posted to The Board]

Okay, people, might I make a request? We have two livejournal communities (this and [livejournal.com profile] ppc_hq) that exist soley for us, to share news and missions and whatnot, in a very simple and efficient manner.

Might I suggest that we actually start to use it?

I have no problem with all PPCers who have LiveJournals friending each other, but it drives me crazy to have filtered friends pages that are full of non-PPC-related posts concerning anything else that's happening in your lives - because, no offense meant, I don't know all of you that well, and I don't have time to sift through post after post looking for missions. A community would be a thousand times easier - that's why they exist.

I realise a lot of people (myself included) want to post missions on their own journals; fine, no worries. But how about making cross-posts to the PPC community(/ies) for missions and the like so that we actually do have a useable alert system for any new missions? It's really not that much extra work.

Besides, both [livejournal.com profile] the_ppc and [livejournal.com profile] ppc_hq are looking kind of empty. Lonely, even; there are very few updates. Why don't we give them some life back? I'm going to start by making a master post for all my existing missions, so that there's some place other than my directory and our Wiki from which they can be found.

It would be very much appreciated if the rest of you could do the same, at least for all new missions.

(Also, on a more random note, why are there two different communities?)

Quick resource request

Are there any good HP resources on a par with Encyclopedia of Arda? I've been asked to beta some HP scholarship, and I'll need some way to check details.
